- After a two-year-or-so hiatus, the Chevrolet Bolt EV is back, with a sticker of just $29,990. A sticker of $28,995 is coming later, Chevy says.
- The new model gets 255 miles of range, and comes with a NACS charger, meaning it can park and charge at Tesla Superchargers.
- Interior upgrades—include Angry Birds—available through Google built-in.
After a two-year hiatus, the Chevrolet Bolt is back, baby, sporting 255 miles of range, 150-kw charging, and a nifty NACS charge port to get you into Tesla’s Supercharger network.
Best thing might be the price, which starts at $29,990 including destination. Even better will be a $28,995 model promised for later in the 2027 model year. However, without elaboration, Chevy says the Bolt will be a “limited run model,” so you might want to grab one as soon as they hit dealerships early next year.
Sales of the previous Bolt and Bolt EUV peaked in their last year, with 62,045 units sold by the end of 2023. That version of Bolt rode on an outdated platform, and Chevy wanted the Orion Assembly plant in Lake Orion, Michigan, for truck production. The battery recall, where all Bolts and Bolt EUVs were recalled because of a fire risk to the batteries, was another thing. All batteries were replaced under warranty, by the way.

Bolt has some exterior differences, but still sports the efficient hatchback look of the previous model.
Well now the Bolt is back and has plenty of features on it for its under-30-grand sticker price. So many features, that, to simplify the news on the new car, Chevrolet offered a handy “Top 10 things to love” about its new small EV hatchback:
- GM-estimated 255 miles of range
- Peak charging speed of 150 kW+, more than 2.5x faster than the previous Bolt EV. Charges 10% to 80% in 26 minutes with public DC fast charging
- First Chevrolet with native NACS charging port
- New, sporty RS trim
- Larger 11.3-inch-diagonal infotainment screen for navigation, playlists, and entertainment apps like Angry Birds, HBO Max, and more through Google built-in, plus a larger 11-inch-diagonal driver information screen
- Available Super Cruise driver assistance technology with more hands-free miles than ever before
- More than 20 standard safety and driver assistance features including Intersection Collision Mitigation, Rear Automatic Braking, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert with Braking
- Refined new interior with open console and all-new passenger dash storage
- Multiple USB-C ports and available wireless phone charging
- Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) bi-directional capability
That Super Cruise has “late availability,” btw, and they didn’t say how late.

Perhaps the biggest benefit of the new Bolt is its X76 electric front wheel-drive unit, shared with other GM products like the Cadillac Lyriq. While it’s been on 10 GM products so far, the X76 is getting better each time, GM says. This one is the best so far, they say.
“The X76 drive unit was designed from the ground up to maximize driving range and deliver improved efficiency in cost and energy usage,” Chevy said. “The permanent-magnet motor uses minimal rare-earth materials for improved costs. Segmented magnets reduce heat build-up and energy loss, and silicon carbide inverter materials minimize energy loss between the battery and drive unit.”

Inside the cabin, one of the best features may be Google built-in, an integrated system for vehicle infotainment that brings Google services like Google Maps, Google Assistant, and the Google Play Store directly into your car. For instance, your drive route automatically includes information on battery range and on longer drives, Google Maps will give you smarter routes and charging recommendations, factoring in real-time charging station status and range estimates based on driving style, Chevy points out. If DC fast charging is available along your route, automatic battery preconditioning gives your battery a warm-up for optimal charging performance. These are features that have appeared on other cars, but they’re a welcome addition to a car that costs under $30,000.
You can also say “Hey, Google” and then tell it to do all kinds of things like change the cabin temperature, fire the seat warmers, conduct some voice-to-text messages, and place hands-free phone calls.
And when you’re plugged in to that 150-kw charger, you can play Angry Birds, look at Chrome, try out GameSnacks, play HBO Max, Tubi, Prime Video, and more, Chevy says.

New Bolt features popular NACS charging
When you get home, the Bolt now has V2H, or vehicle-to-home charging, meaning if there’s a power outage your car can keep your refrigerator going till the power comes back on. But it has to be paired with a GM Energy Home System, which ain’t cheap. According to a Google search (just like you can do in your new Bolt!), a GM Energy Home System—which bundles a bi-directional charger, PowerBank battery, home hub, and inverter—costs around $12,700, not including installation, taxes, or additional parts like the vehicle’s Dark Start Battery. The GM Energy V2H Bundle, including the charger, inverter, home hub, and Dark Start Battery but excluding the PowerBank, is available for approximately $7,300.
Yikes!
Look for the new Bolt in Chevy dealerships in the first quarter of 2026.
