Female police officer allegedly attacked on job

Two young female police officers were responding to a welfare check when one officer was kicked and punched, leaving her unconscious for more than an hour.

A 19-year-old was charged with allegedly assaulting the officers in Sydney’s west last night.

Two female police officers aged 22 and 23 were called to Bunya Road in Bidwill, near Mt Druitt, after reports of a 19-year-old man lying on the road at 6.30pm yesterday.

The officers tried to talk to the man when he allegedly became aggressive and kicked the 23-year-old in the stomach before hitting her in the head.

“She was unconscious for approximately 60 to 70 minutes,” NSW Police detective superintendent Darrin Batchelor said.

When her 22-year-old partner tried to intervene, she was also allegedly assaulted.

She tried to use capsicum spray on the offender when two other officers arrived on the scene, and they were able to subdue the 19-year-old man.

“In a very short timeframe, allegedly he punched a female officer and kicked the other female officer as well,” Batchelor said.

“Physically they’re doing relatively OK, considering what’s occurred, however psychologically they’re all shaken.

“The police force is a family, so the events of last night have affected the entire police force.”

He was taken to Mt Druitt Police Station, before being taken to Nepean Hospital for a mental health assessment.

While he was being moved, the man allegedly bit a third police officer on the arm.

The male constable was taken to Mt Druitt Hospital for treatment.

Acting NSW police commissioner Peter Thurtell said the alleged assaults were an example of the risks police officers face on a daily basis.

“This was an allegedly unprovoked and sickening attack on three young police officers who were simply doing their job,” Thurtell said.

“I commend the bravery and courage of the officers involved, they deserve respect not violence.

“Police attend these welfare-related jobs on a daily basis and incidents like this one highlight the risks and dangers officers face when they are out on our streets protecting the local community.”

The 23-year-old officer was treated by paramedics at the scene and was taken to the hospital in a stable condition.

She was released from care this morning after being treated for a concussion.

The second officer was taken to hospital as a precaution and was treated for bruising and scratching.

The 19-year-old man was later taken to Mt Druitt Police Station, where he was charged with six offences, including assaulting a police officer.

He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court tomorrow.

PHOENIX — A welfare check in Phoenix last month quickly took a frightening turn when police officers found a mother dead and her baby barely clinging to life.

Neighbors called police after several days passed without seeing or hearing from the woman or her newborn. Police didn’t get a response when they arrived.

When they looked through the windows, they saw the mother motionless on the floor and the baby laying on a nearby bed.

Bodycam footage shared by the department on social media captured the moment that officers forced entry into the home, only to find the baby “severely dehydrated and clinging to life.”

They also found that the child’s mother had passed away.

First responders quickly took the baby to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Fortunately, Phoenix police had some good news to share.

“We are happy to report, the infant’s condition has improved greatly, and they’re expected to survive,” police said.

Police told 12News that there were no signs of foul play in the woman’s death, and the medical examiner is still working to determine how she died.

The rescue took place on May 14, 2025. Police didn’t release the mother’s identity or where it took place.
