Video footage shows a paedophile driving into the path of oncoming traffic on the day he was due in court – before pursuing officers ended the chase by making contact and flipping his car into a roadside verge.

Police said 26-year-old Luke Jarrett “clearly did not want to face justice” for having indecent images of children, and that “may lie behind his reckless and dangerous driving”.

The defendant, of Wisbech on the Cambridgeshire-Norfolk border, was due to have his first court appearance for the indecent image offences on the day that he was caught driving dangerously.

He has now been jailed for three years and four months, Cambridgeshire Police said.

The force said concerns were raised for Jarrett’s welfare after he was due to attend Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on September 22 this year to face charges relating to illicit images of children.

Officers then spotted him driving a green Jeep Cherokee on the A47, from Thorney Toll towards Wisbech, at about 9am.

Jarrett failed to stop, accelerated aggressively and recklessly overtook vehicles by moving into the path of oncoming traffic, the force said.

He reached speeds of 64mph in a 50mph zone, and police made tactical contact with the Jeep to stop it.

Jarrett had been on bail after being arrested in 2024 when officers seized his electronic devices and found indecent images.

They found 703 indecent images of children and 771 videos, 638 extreme pornographic images and 288 indecent photographs of a child that had been distributed, Cambridgeshire Police said.

Jarrett was jailed for three years and four months at Peterborough Crown Court on November 5, they added.

He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, as well as one count of distributing an indecent image of a child, three counts of making an indecent image of a child, two further counts of distributing an indecent photograph of a child and possessing an extreme pornographic image.

Det Con Simon Law, who investigated, said: “Creating indecent images and then sharing them may not be a physical offence but it still harms the child victims.

“Jarrett clearly did not want to face justice for these crimes, which may lie behind his reckless and dangerous driving that endangered innocent members of the public on the day of his first court appearance.”

Jarrett was also handed an indefinite sexual harm prevention order, ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register and banned from driving for five years and four months.

PORTLAND, Oregon — Newly released video shows the wild police pursuit after a Portland man stole a Homeland Security vehicle from federal agents in April. Travis Grygla, 43, crashed the federal vehicle near Castle Rock, Washington after leading police on a chase that reached speeds near 120 mph.

Police dash and body camera video, along with court records help explain how the suspect stole a police car from federal agents, then led law enforcement on a nearly 60-mile chase. Law enforcement released the video in response to a public records request by KGW News.

On the morning of April 24, federal investigators served a search warrant on Grygla’s Southeast Portland home. The registered sex offender was suspected of possessing and sharing child pornography.

Federal agents did not handcuff Grygla, according to court documents. “Grygla had been left seated in the passenger seat of the police car with the window down and an officer standing outside the vehicle,” wrote U.S. Homeland Security Special Agent Clinton Lindly in an affidavit filed in federal court.

After learning federal investigators had discovered a hidden cell phone, Grygla said, “this is not going to go good for me,” according to the affidavit. He then locked the doors, slid into the driver’s seat and took off in the unmarked Homeland Security SUV.

Grygla led police on a chase from Portland through Southwest Washington. The pursuit along Interstate 5 reached speeds near 120 mph, according to police. The vehicle had two firearms and additional police gear in a lockbox.

The Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office, Washington State Patrol, Castle Rock Police, Kalama Police, and Woodland Police responded.

Police dash and body camera videos showed officers deploying spike strips several times, although Grygla appeared to evade them. Eventually, the front driver side tire deflated.

As Grygla tried to exit the freeway in Castle Rock, police used a pursuit tactic, causing the suspect to lose control of the vehicle. The Homeland Security SUV flipped on its roof.

Moments later, Grygla emerged from the wreckage and taken into custody. He was arrested on an outstanding warrant and federal child pornography charges. He is scheduled to be arraigned in July.

“HSI has procedures in place to ensure the safety of the public, as well as the suspects, when we encounter them,” U.S. Homeland Security Investigations wrote in a statement to KGW. “HSI is reviewing this incident to ensure all relevant procedures were followed.”
