Five teenagers have been arrested and face various charges after allegedly engaging in “disorderly activity” that injured at least one cop in Washington, D.C., on Halloween night, according to authorities.

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) shared in a news release on Saturday, Nov. 1, that the arrests were made after teenagers congregated in an area “adjacent to an entrance to the Navy Yard Metro Station” in the Navy Yard neighborhood starting around 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 31.

Police said that by 8 p.m. several hundred teens gathered at the area, and while “initially peaceful,” “many” in the group began “engaging in fights and disrupting the flow of traffic, repeatedly ignoring instructions to remain on sidewalks.”

MPD arrived on the scene — along with Metro Transit Police, United States Capitol Police, the National Guard and members of the Federal Task Force — in an attempt to control the situation. MPD said officers closed down streets, engaged the group to “restore order” and “directed” them to the Navy Yard Metro Station.

During this time, officers arrested five teens. Kaeden Brown, 18, is charged with possession of a prohibited weapon (knife).

A 16-year-old male is charged with illegal consumption of marijuana. A 15-year-old male is charged with affray, or starting a public fight between several people. Two 14-year-old males are charged with failure to obey and resisting arrest. They were all unnamed due to their status as minors.

The MPD said that the Metro Transit Police made two additional arrests, though they did not provide any details on the arrest.

One of the MPD officers sustained “minor injuries” after being “knocked to the ground during the effort to restore order in the park,” MPD said. The officer was treated at the site by emergency services.

A video posted to X showed just how chaotic the incident got, with several teenagers shouting and running around the park in clusters as what appeared to be National Guard members rounded them up. Dozens of police vehicles could also be seen flashing in the background.

“The behavior displayed last night in Navy Yard is unacceptable, and MPD and our law enforcement partners will have an increased presence tonight to ensure this does not happen again,” MPD Chief of Police Pamela A. Smith said in a statement.

“This group chose not to visit any of the events hosted by MPD or our DC agency partners and instead gathered in this manner,” she continued. “This evening, MPD will preemptively close several streets around the park area south of M Street, Southeast.”

She ended her statement noting that the public could expect to see “an increased deployment of MPD officers and partner agency members” and thanked the officers and their partners for their “professionalism during this incident.”

NJ officer hurt after chair thrown during Domino’s brawl; suspects wanted

Police are trying to track down two subjects involved in a fight that ended with an officer injured by a thrown chair in a South Jersey college town.

GLASSBORO, N.J. (WPVI) — Police are trying to track down two subjects involved in a fight that ended with an officer injured by a thrown chair in a South Jersey college town.

Glassboro police have released surveillance video from the Domino’s on Rowan Boulevard.

They say a large fight happened around 2:45 a.m. Saturday.

The video shows a full dining room with some people still in Halloween costumes.

Police say that as officers were making an arrest, two males picked up a chair and threw it at them, hitting one officer in the back of the head. Now, police want to identify the two people involved.

“It’s college. It’s normal at this point,” said senior Ruth Wozniak.

This happened in an area adjacent to Rowan University, and students we spoke with weren’t all that surprised.

Freshman Destiny Edwards was heading to Rowan Boulevard to get some food early Saturday when she encountered a lot of police.

“They had cop cars all the way down here. Like you couldn’t get down here. Just very crowded,” said Edwards.

She and other students say Rowan Boulevard is frequently full of crowds on weekends and holidays, and it’s often a mix of Rowan students and others.

Fultoo Biryani House across the street closes at midnight, but employees still worry about the effect this will have on business.

“If we are planning to open midnight or past midnight, then we have to talk about it because crime and safety of customers. It’s very concerning,” said Jenis Prajabati, who works at Fultoo Biryani House.

Students we spoke with hope the people involved are caught, and hope they continue to see patrols at night.

“What they can do — just find the person that did it to make sure stuff like that doesn’t happen anymore. But I think them patrolling helps a lot too,” said sophomore Hajar McCray.

Action News reached out to Domino’s corporate offices but hadn’t heard back as of Monday evening.

Police have not released any more information on how the injured officer is doing.

Anyone with information on the two subjects or the fight in general is asked to contact Glassboro police.
