SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. (WKRC) – A mother shot and killed her husband after he “threatened to hurt” the couple’s 8-year-old autistic son for “pooping his pants,” per court documents.
Officers with the Winter Springs Police Department received a 911 call regarding a shooting on June 5, 2024, in which the caller said she shot someone in the head, according to an affidavit.
When police arrived at the address, 39-year-old Laurie Adams surrendered herself to officers without resistance. Officers found 51-year-old Adel Tawfeek on the back porch suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

Adams told police during her interrogation that she got into a fight with Tawfeek after the man “threatened to hurt” the couple’s 8-year-old son, who has autism, after he “pooped his pants,” the affidavit said.
Adams said that Tawfeek “shoved her against the wall” and then walked outside to the back porch with a beer, at which point Adams waited about 10 minutes, then took a firearm belonging to Tawfeek from inside the residence and shot the man in the head.
Officers also learned that Adams had texted her mother days before the shooting “and requested that she be responsible for her son if anything were to happen.”
Adams pleaded guilty to first-degree premeditated murder with a firearm on Thursday, and was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

WINTER SPRINGS, FL — A Florida woman who was arrested last month for shooting her husband in the head after an argument about their son defecating himself has been indicted for first-degree murder, according to prosecutors and court records.
A Seminole County grand jury on Tuesday indicted 38-year-old Laurie Adams of Winter Springs on one count of first-degree premeditated murder with a firearm in connection with the death of 51-year-old Adel Tawfeek after hearing testimony from a Winters Springs police investigator, according to the Seminole County State Attorney’s Office.
Winter Springs police went to the couple’s home in the 400 block of Sheoah Boulevard shortly after midnight on June 5 after receiving a call about a shooting. While en route, a dispatcher told officers the caller said she shot a man in the head after he threatened to hurt her son, according to a search warrant affidavit.
After arriving at the home, officers were greeted by Adams who was placed in handcuffs. After reading Adams her rights, officers said she told them she returned home around 11:30 p.m. and noticed her 8-year-old son had defecated in his pants, according to an arrest report.
After telling Tawfeek about the incident, police said he began to yell at the child. He also grabbed Adams and pushed her against a wall, according to court documents.

After calming down, court documents said Adams went to Tawfeek’s bedroom, grabbed his gun, and went to the back porch, where he was smoking and drinking a beer. She then proceeded to shoot him in the head, authorities said.
Tawfeek was taken to Lake Monroe Hospital in Sanford, where he was pronounced dead.
No trial date has been set, prosecutors said.

A Florida woman admitted to shooting a man in the head with his gun after he became upset when their 8-year-old son defecated in his pants and was immediately sentenced to 25 years in prison.

The bloodshed happened on June 5, according to an affidavit. Police responded to an apartment in the 400 block of Sheoah Boulevard in Winter Springs, north of Orlando, on a shooting call. While en route, officers were informed by communications that the caller had said she had shot someone in the head.
Once inside the home, officers saw Tawfeek sitting on the back porch with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. He died at a hospital.
Adams told police it all started after Tawfeek became upset when he noticed their 8-year-old son, who has autism, “had pooped his pants.”
He began to yell at the boy and his mother, she told police, according to the affidavit.
An arrest report said she told investigators that after she cleaned up their son, she put him to bed, then Tawfeek began to yell at her and pushed her against a wall.
The affidavit said he then grabbed a beer and sat on the back porch.
Adams took about 15 minutes to calm down, then went to Tawfeek’s bedroom closet, grabbed his gun and loaded it, the arrest report said.
“She walked out to the living room and observed Adel Tawfeek smoking on the porch,” the document said. “Laurie then walked out towards the porch, where she pulled the trigger, shooting Adel Tawfeek in the head.”
The affidavit added that Adams had also told investigators she had texted her mother days before the shooting and requested that she be responsible for her son “if anything were to happen.”
