YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — Reports said a woman who refused to pay a restaurant bill Saturday morning spit in the face of a city police officer.
Gail Randolph, 55, was booked into the Mahoning County Jail on a charge of assault, a fourth-degree felony. She was also given a misdemeanor citation for criminal trespass. She is expected to be arraigned later Monday in municipal court.
Reports said police were called about 10:30 a.m. to a West Federal Street restaurant because a woman, later identified as Randolph, refused to pay a $69 restaurant bill.
Included in the bill were four beers, two Cokes, fried mushrooms, two mixed drinks, a dessert and a sausage sandwich.
Randolph told police she was not leaving because she had yet to eat, and when police offered her a ride to a nearby soup kitchen, she spit in the face of an officer, reports said.
She was then handcuffed and taken into custody, reports said.

Former Capitol Police officer Michael Fanone confronted a MAGA election denier to his face at a Thursday congressional hearing at which former special counsel Jack Smith testified.
At Thursday’s hearing, Fanone, who was at the Capitol on duty during the January 6 riot, was filmed during a break confronting Ivan Raiklin. At one point, Fanone was held back by multiple people, including fellow former Capitol Police officer Harry Dunn. Raiklin is a 2020 election conspiracy theorist and a vocal supporter of the January 6 Capitol rioters.
Footage from multiple angles on Thursday found Fanone and Raiklin exchanging words before Fanone walked towards Raiklin and called him a “traitor to this country.”
Raiklin, who was filming his own video during the confrontation, asked Fanone why he is so “spasmodic.”
Fanone crossed him arms and the two continued exchanging words as Dunn came up behind Fanone and began trying to pull him away.
“See how many people are restraining you?” Raiklin asked as others joined in pulling Fanone away. “Look at me, totally in control over my mind and body.”
A Capitol officer eventually stepped between the two.
“This guy’s threatened my family, threatened my children,” Fanone said as another officer stepped into the middle of the scene. “Threatened my — threatened to rape my children, you sick b*stard! Rape my children!”
Dunn eventually got Fanone back to his seat. Fanone warned one officer, “Do not f**king touch me” after the confrontation.

“Who thinks I should sue Mr. Fanone for defamation?” Raiklin posted after the encounter with Fanone.
The footage captured by Raiklin showed that he appeared to make contact with Fanone first, saying hello to him. Fanone told him to “f*ck” himself and stop pretending like they weren’t “mortal enemies.”
Fanone continued telling Raiklin to go “f*ck” himself ,while Raiklin claimed he was “always professional” with Fanone while also accusing Fanone of having “Tourette” syndrome.

A McDonald’s customer is facing charges after the fast-food eatery caught him on surveillance video throwing hot tea at a drive-thru worker, police said.
Walnutport police said the incident happened just after 8 a.m. Tuesday at the McDonald’s at 473 Main St. in the borough.
The 80-year-old man received a cup of hot tea from the worker, Police Chief Jason Nothstein said. The customer then allegedly took off the lid, threw the hot liquid at the woman and discarded the cup onto the ground.
It’s unclear what led the man, who lives in the area, to throw the hot liquid. Borough police are still investigating the incident.
The McDonald’s worker was hurt and received medical treatment at the scene for the injury, Nothstein said. Her condition was not immediately available Wednesday morning.
Nothstein told lehighvalleylive.com the man will be charged later Wednesday, and faces simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct offenses.
The man was identified after police posted photos and videos of the incident on the department’s Facebook page.
“We want to thank everyone who called and messaged us with the identity of the male,” the chief stated in the updated Facebook posting. “Because of your assistance, we were able to positively identify the male.”
It’s unclear how hot McDonald’s serves its tea drinks. A chain spokesperson didn’t immediately return a request for comment.
The Tea Association of the USA, however, recommends water with a temperature between 180 and 190 degrees for oolongs and white teas, while much hotter water is required for black teas.
Woman accused of spitting in face of cop will have case heard in mental health court
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — A woman accused of spitting in the face of a police officer after refusing to pay a restaurant bill will now have her case heard in the Mahoning County Mental Health Court.
Gail Randolph, 56, will enter the court after pleading guilty today before Judge Maureen Sweeney in common pleas court to a charge of harassment by bodily substance, a fifth-degree felony.
Under terms of the plea, if Randolph completes counseling and other requirements of the mental health court, her charges will be dismissed.
