Fugitive Gang Member Busted Stealing at Nike Store

Fugitive with Venezuelan gang affiliation arrested at Dolphin Mall

SWEETWATER, FLA. (WSVN) – A foreign gang member was caught and arrested in South Florida.

Police arrested a man after, they said, stole more than a thousand dollars of merchandise at the Dolphin Mall, Friday night.

Police said Abraham Mavo-Bracho stole the merchandise from the Nike store.

When police tried to arrest Mavo-Bracho, he assaulted an officer as he resisted arrest.

He was later charged with grand theft, resisting arrest and battery on a police officer.

Officers said he has a tattoo showing his affiliation with a gang in Venezuela and is a fugitive wanted in Chicago.

Mavo-Bracho was awaiting an immigration trial but cut off his ankle monitor and fled to South Florida.

Two people are behind bars after the latest arrests of suspected thieves from Mexico allegedly nabbing millions of dollars of Nike sneakers in elaborate railroad heists in the Mojave Desert.

On March 27, the Hualapai Nation Police Department in Arizona pulled over the driver of a maroon Chevy Tahoe “suspected to be involved in train robberies in the area,” according to a statement from the agency.

As officers conducted the traffic stop, eight people jumped out of the car and fled. Police said they located stolen Nike shoes nearby, and the driver of the vehicle, a man from Mexico, was arrested.

Upon approaching that vehicle, officers “observed evidence of criminal activity” also linked to the train robberies, according to police.

The woman was ordered out of the vehicle by officers, and, despite initially complying, she reentered the vehicle and sped away, police said. As she attempted to evade authorities, she allegedly struck a patrol officer, who was not injured.

The woman dodged police for approximately 80 miles before losing control of her vehicle in a construction zone and smashing into a guardrail near the Arizona-California border, police said. She was ejected from the vehicle and transported to a hospital with minor injuries.

Both suspects were in the U.S. illegally and have been booked into the Mohave County Adult Detention Center.

The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Homeland Security did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

The heist comes as authorities have seen a rise in railroad heists targeting Nike shoes between California and Arizona over the past two years.

In February, a grand jury returned an indictment against 11 defendants, including nine illegal immigrants, from a theft of Nike merchandise being shipped through northern Arizona, according to the Department of Justice.

Authorities said the Sinaloa Cartel stole hundreds of thousands of dollars in Nike shoes from a moving BNSF train in Arizona in January.

“Criminal organizations that specialize in stealing from trains, which consist primarily of Mexican citizens with connections to the Mexican State of Sinaloa, have used the technique of cutting air hoses to control where trains with valuable cargo come to a stop,” the DOJ said in a statement. “This act is very dangerous and can cause the trains, which travel up to 70 miles per hour, to derail.”

Suspects arrested in Nike store heist in East L.A. — part of a rash of brazen robberies

A group of suspects was arrested this week in connection with the robbery of a Nike store in East Los Angeles — the latest in a string of brazen “flash mob” crimes over the past few weeks.

Thieves were captured on video around 5:30 p.m. Aug. 13 making off with thousands of dollars worth of merchandise from the Nike store at 4585 Whittier Boulevard, according to KTLA. They fled the scene in a red SUV onto the 710 Freeway.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department stopped an SUV Wednesday and pulled the vehicle over, finding large bags containing Nike sneakers. Six people were arrested; their identities were not released. The case remains under investigation.

The Nike heist was part of a spate of daylight burglaries that have occurred across Southern California over the past few weeks.

On Thursday morning, authorities arrested Los Angeles resident Ivan Issac Ramirez, 23, the first suspect in the Yves Saint Laurent “flash mob” burglary at a Glendale shopping center, according to a Glendale Police Department news release.

Ramirez was booked on organized retail theft, burglary, grand theft and conspiracy, authorities said.

On Aug. 8, at least 30 people stole about $400,000 worth of merchandise from the Yves Saint Laurent store at the Americana at Brand in Glendale. The thieves were caught on camera fleeing the store in broad daylight before escaping in about 20 vehicles.

Police have issued an arrest warrant for another suspect, 21-year-old Los Angeles resident Brianna Jimenez.

Custody personnel at the Glendale City Jail determined there were “medical” and “psych issues” with Ramirez; they contacted the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to transfer Ramirez to their medical ward, according to Glendale Police Sgt. Victor Jackson. But the sheriff’s department declined the transfer due to their emergency bail schedule and because the alleged crimes failed to meet their felony threshold.

Ramirez was cited for the four felonies and hospitalized for his health issues. He’s scheduled to appear Sept. 15 in Glendale Superior Court.

“I assure all members of the Glendale community and the broader Los Angeles region that these brazen smash-and-grab robberies and burglaries will not be tolerated,” said Glendale Police Chief Manuel Cid. “This marks the first arrest related to this crime and there are more arrests to come.”

Rick Caruso, the owner of the Americana at Brand, has offered a reward of $50,000 for information that helps in identifying, arresting and convicting the suspects in the crime.

The Los Angeles Police Department has announced the formation of the Organized Retail Crime Task Force to address the recent rash in “flash mob” burglaries, which usually involve a group of people running into a store at the same time and grabbing as much merchandise as possible before fleeing.

Three people were arrested Thursday in Huntington Beach on suspicion of shoplifting from a convenience store.

Huntington Beach authorities saw the suspects fleeing the store in a vehicle and pulled them over on the 405 Freeway. In the car, law enforcement officers found more than $1,200 worth of cosmetics.

Trump launches 450-word rant about his ballroom and says a lawsuit to stop it being built would be ‘devastating’ for US

As the US reeled from the latest shooting of an anti-ICE protester by federal agents, Donald Trump launched a 450-word rant in which he claimed that stopping the construction of his luxurious $400 million presidential ballroom would be “devastating to the White House, our Country, and all concerned.”

In a series of social media posts on Sunday, the president briefly addressed the situation in Minneapolis following the fatal shooting of ICU nurse Alex Pretti, writing: “Minnesota is a Criminal COVER UP of the massive Financial Fraud that has gone on!” He also praised allies for their appearances on Fox News to talk about the situation.

But by far his longest message, which he pinned to the top of his Truth Social feed, concerned the threat posed to the building of his White House ballroom by a lawsuit which seeks to stop it in its tracks.

“I’m building, on top of everything else that I am doing, one of the greatest and most beautiful Ballrooms anywhere in the World, with more than 300 Million Dollars of Great American Patriots’ money, and working closely with, right from the beginning, the United States Military and Secret Service,” the president wrote.

“Making such a large gift to the U.S.A. was thought to be, by almost everyone, ‘A WONDERFUL THING TO DO’ — But no, as usual, I got sued, this time by the Radical Left National (No!)Trust for Historic Preservation, a group that couldn’t care less about our Country!”

In December the National Trust for Historic Preservation filed a lawsuit to halt the construction of the ballroom, arguing that Trump’s administration had violated federal review processes and bypassed Congress with its unilateral demolition of the White House’s historic East Wing (Alex Wong/Getty Images)

In December the National Trust for Historic Preservation filed a lawsuit to halt the construction of the ballroom, arguing that Trump’s administration had violated federal review processes and bypassed Congress with its unilateral demolition of the White House’s historic East Wing.

The president blasted the “obstructionists and troublemakers” over the “baseless lawsuit” in his post, claiming that there was no need for him to seek Congressional approval. “Congress never tried, or wanted, to stop the Ballroom Project!” he claimed.

“The so-called “preservationists,” who get their money from the most unusual of places, should not be allowed to stop this desperately needed addition to our GREAT White House, a place that a President has never needed permission to change or enhance, because of the special grounds on which it sits, no matter how big (and important!), that enhancement may be.

“Additionally, in this instance, it is being done with the design, consent, and approval of the highest levels of the United States Military and Secret Service. The mere bringing of this ridiculous lawsuit has already, unfortunately, exposed this heretofore Top Secret fact.”

He added: “Stoppage of construction, at this late date, when so much has already been ordered and done, would be devastating to the White House, our Country, and all concerned.”

In its suit the National Trust for Historic Preservation contends that federal law prohibits construction on federal parkland in Washington without express congressional authority.

On Friday U.S. District Judge Richard Leon appeared to agree, expressing strong reservations against the construction and questioning whether the president did indeed possess the statutory power to dismantle the East Wing without explicit oversight or authorization.

Since President Donald Trump won reelection and returned to office, he has managed to wrap institutions, companies and powerful figures around his finger, while crushing any opposition to his policy agenda.

But there are some notable exceptions.

Politics: Democrats Consider Partial Government Shutdown To Curb ICE

Here’s a look at some of the people, institutions and businesses who have chosen not to fold under extreme pressure from Trump:

Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell On Interest Rates

Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, who was first nominated for the top job by Trump in his first presidency and later renominated by Joe Biden, made headlines earlier this month with an extraordinary public message announcing that the Justice Department’s threat to criminally prosecute the U.S. central bank was politically motivated.

“The threat of criminal charges is a consequence of the Federal Reserve setting interest rates, based on our best assessment of what will serve the public, rather than following the preferences of the president,” Powell said. “This is about whether the Fed will be able to continue to set interest rates based on evidence and economic conditions or whether instead monetary policy will be directed by political pressure or intimidation.”

Powell, who has long been targeted by Trump over the Fed’s resistance to adhere to Trump’s demands on interest rates, had previously largely ignored the president’s attacks.

GOP Sen. Thom Tillis On Trump’s ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’

Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), who announced he won’t be seeking reelection after Trump threatened to back a primary challenge against him over his opposition to the “big, beautiful bill,” has emerged as a frequent Trump critic and one of only a handful of Republicans willing to vote in opposition to the president’s wishes.

Most recently, Tillis, a member of the Senate Banking Committee, warned he would “oppose the confirmation of any nominee for the Fed” as long as U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro continues her investigation into Powell.

Tillis has also criticized Trump’s push to acquire Greenland and supported Democrats’ efforts to put up a plaque in the Capitol to honor the police officers who protected lawmakers during the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection.

Rep. Thomas Massie And Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene On The Epstein Files

Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) supported a bill forcing the Department of Justice to release its full trove of files on late *** offender Jeffrey Epstein and criticized Trump’s effort to block the files from becoming public.

Politics: As Major Defeats Pile Up, Trump Paints Himself An Alternate Reality

Her stance prompted Trump to renounce his support for her, calling her a “traitor” and threatening to support a primary challenge against her. Greene resigned from Congress in January, further shrinking Republicans’ majority in the House.

Greene’s former colleague, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), has also been willing to break with the president. He is one of the co-sponsors of the Epstein Files Transparency Act.

Massie has continued to use his platform to highlight the DOJ’s failure to comply with the law, which mandates the department to release the documents by Dec. 19, 2025.

A Few ‘Big Law Firms’ On Executive Orders

Four major law firms — Perkins Coie, WilmerHale, Jenner & Block and Susman Godfrey — independently sued the Trump administration to block the executive orders the president issued against them.

Politics: Kristi Noem Refuses To Answer Whether ICE Disarmed Alex Pretti Before Fatally Shooting Him

Trump went to war against five law firms that either represented his political opponents or people with cases against the president or employed lawyers who worked in the government’s past cases against him.

While Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison struck an agreement with the administration, paving the way for eight subsequent deals with other firms that acted proactively to avoid Trump’s wrath, the aforementioned four firms successfully challenged the president in court, with judges finding Trump’s orders unconstitutional. Trump’s lawyers have appealed the cases.

The BBC On Lawsuit Threat

The president attacked the BBC over the editing of a “BBC Panorama” documentary that aired on the channel in October 2024.

Politics: Pam Bondi Claims ‘Chaos’ In Minnesota Can Stop If Governor Cedes To 3 Demands

Trump accused the public broadcaster of trying “to step on the scales of a Presidential Election.” The documentary didn’t air in the U.S.

In November, the president’s lawyers insisted that the BBC remove the documentary, apologize and compensate Trump, threatening the broadcaster with legal action if it didn’t comply with those demands.

The BBC apologized to the president but declined to offer compensation, prompting Trump to sue.

The BBC has moved to get the lawsuit tossed out.

Mark Carney On The International Stage

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney delivered one of the most widely praised speeches at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, criticizing leaders wary of crossing Trump and pushing for a new international trade order as he has sought to make his country’s economy less reliant on the U.S.

“There is a strong tendency for countries to go along to get along. To accommodate. To avoid trouble. To hope that compliance will buy safety. It won’t,” Carney said.
