KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An investigation is underway in Clay County after a local mother reported that a man exposed himself in the women’s locker room at the North Kansas City YMCA.
“Shock, because I have an 11-year-old that comes here often with me and works out. It’s definitely a shock,” said one member.Teens killed in Saturday crash were students leaving Shawnee Mission South prom
The incident reportedly happened to a seven-year-old girl while she was with her mother. The woman says she and her daughter had just finished swimming lessons, where she estimates hundreds of children were present and had gone to the women’s locker room to change.
That’s when she says she heard a man’s voice.
She told FOX4 that as she and her daughter were leaving a stall, they encountered a naked man with his genitals exposed.
When she questioned what he was doing, the woman says the individual responded with something to the effect of, “Honey, I’m a woman.”
She and her daughter then sprinted out of the locker room. The woman spoke to FOX4 on Monday and said she and her daughter were not the only ones who witnessed the incident.
Angela Bush, a YMCA member, shared her concerns.
“My 11-year-old does use that locker room, especially after we go to the pool. In there, you either have to use the closed-off showers or try to change as quickly as possible. It’s definitely shocking and something we’ll be looking out for a little bit more,” she said.
The YMCA has launched its own formal investigation, alongside the North Kansas City Police Department and the Clay County Prosecutor’s Office.
In a statement to FOX4, the YMCA said:
“The YMCA of Greater Kansas City is aware of a reported incident in the locker room at the North Kansas City YMCA on April 12, 2025. We continue to investigate the incident and are unable to provide further details at this time. We also are cooperating with the North Kansas City Police Department as they conduct their investigation. The safety and well-being of all of our members is a priority, and we take this concern seriously.
We follow all state and local laws, and individuals are allowed to use the locker room or restroom that they identify with. At the North Kansas City YMCA, we also have four private universal changing rooms available, separate from the larger shared locker rooms, for anyone who prefers the privacy they offer.
To ensure all Y members’ standards of privacy are respected and safety is prioritized when using any of our shared locker rooms, members are asked to wear a towel, wrap or other clothes at all times, which is communicated to members when they join in our Member Handbook.“
The North Kansas City Police Department confirmed it is investigating a report of an indecent exposure that occurred on April 12 at the YMCA located in North Kansas City, but did not share further details.Fortune 500 tech company bringing 2,000 jobs to former Sprint campus
The mother, who wishes to remain anonymous to protect her family, emphasized that this is not an issue of gender identity.
“This is not a case of transitional status. This is an issue of somebody showing their body parts to my child in a room where she should be safe from such things,” she said.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Almost a week has passed since two masked men attacked and fatally shot another man in South Nashville, and now the family is speaking out.
Gavin Christian Thompson’s grieving family said losing him has left a hole in their life that cannot be filled.
But they are proud of the person he was and have a message for the men who cut his life short.
“It’s crazy because I never would have thought that I would see my dad in a casket,” Thompson’s daughter, Amaya Thompson, said.PREVIOUS | Detectives investigating deadly shooting in South Nashville
Amaya and her family are still in shock.
“I still can’t believe that he’s gone,” she said.
One minute, her father, Gavin, went to drop off her brother, and then her brother called and said someone shot their dad.
Metro police said Gavin was approached by two masked men outside of a South Nashville apartment complex along Zermatt Avenue last Sunday. Officers said Thompson was chased and physically assaulted before he was shot.
“That is the last memory that he has of his father,” Gavin’s mom, Constance Young, said. “That’s why it’s important that we get justice for my son.”

“The way that he pours into the community is just something I’m trying to come to grips with because he’s not that type of person,” Young continued. “He pours into people. There is not a jealous bone in his body.”
They want Gavin’s memory to live on, not for how he died, but rather for how he lived.
“Him helping people and giving back to people, it was generous,” Amaya said. “I’m glad that he passed away knowing that he was strong and that he was able to start from nothing and get to the top.”
Gavin’s family said he was a hard worker who cared for others, especially his family.

“My dad, he had tough love, which I feel like he was just doing that to prepare us for the real world,” Amaya said. “And then after that, he started softening up, and he was always home.”
As they reminisce on the good memories, they have this message for the suspects who are wanted by the police.
“I would say that they deserved to suffer respectfully because they took something valuable from me,” she said. “I’m going to grow up without my dad. Like, he’s not going to watch me turn 16. He’s not going to be at my graduation, none of that. They deserve to suffer. And I honestly just want him to have justice, and I want people to hear his story.”
Anyone with information on this fatal shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers. There is a $5,000 cash reward for information that leads to an arrest.
