Student Exposes ‘Tweaker’ Teacher’s Alleged Drug Problem

U.S. teacher accused of showing up to work high on cocaine, giving vape to students

CAPE CORAL, Florida (WBBH) — The School District of Lee County is moving to fire a teacher accused of showing up to work while high on cocaine and letting students use her vape.

According to district documents, the school district has filed a petition for termination of employment against Nuria Acuna, a teacher at Island Coast High School in Cape Coral.

According to documents, the school district conducted an investigation into Acuna and removed her from the classroom after allegations surfaced. The documents say that on Feb. 13, Acuna showed up to teach while under the influence of cocaine.

Students in her class told investigators that Acuna would vape in class and also allowed students to vape in class, sometimes letting the students use her personal vape. Acuna also sold drinks and chips to students from her classroom, the documents said.

Lee County Schools Superintendent Denise Carlin has endorsed the recommendation to fire Acuna, stating that she violated multiple ethical codes.

Acuna is currently suspended without pay until a hearing scheduled for Nov. 4.

Vermont teacher Melissa Martin, 47, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges of cocaine possession and reckless endangerment after she was found with the drug while at work.

The substitute teacher allegedly mistook a student for her dog after getting high on cocaine. Local law enforcement was summoned to a Vermont primary school the morning of Oct. 1 following reports of an adult “under the influence of drugs,” according to Barre Town Police Chief William Dodge.Time for a New Chapter

Martin is accused of admitting to having cocaine in her jacket pocket when police arrived. A K-9 search of the classroom revealed more suspected cocaine in her backpack, police reported.

“The charges that we have cited her for are possession of cocaine and reckless endangerment, based on the fact that she was under the influence while she was in control of the students in her classroom,” said Police Chief Dodge.

The confiscated white powder weighed less than 2.5 grams, it is alleged in court documents.

Local news outlets reported that one mother, identified only as Brittany, said her son was in Martin’s class that day.

“He looked visibly shaken and upset, and I asked what had happened today,” she told NBC5. “He said that his substitute teacher was clearly on drugs and was acting crazy. Those were his exact words.”

Brittany said her son told her that Martin was nodding off in class before suddenly bolting from the room. Worried, he followed her and things took a strange turn.IDGAF

“So he followed her, and I guess found her, and [Martin] said to him, “Hey Teddy, why are you off your leash? My son was like, ‘What?'” the mom said he alleged.

It later came to light that Teddy was the name of Martin’s dog. The school dialed 911 after students expressed worries about Martin’s behavior.Bàn phím gaming có dây Logitech G915 X Low Profile

“He did the right thing, and that is part of the curriculum. If you hear something, you’re concerned about something, you say something,” Joan Canning, superintendent of the Barre Unified Union School District, told NBC5.

Canning further mentioned that Martin confessed to drug use and was immediately dismissed under the school’s zero-tolerance policy. Martin has been serving as a permanent substitute for approximately three years.IDGAF

Parents were livid when they got wind of the news.

“A lot of us were just shocked, just wowed, because we never expected something like this to happen in a school,” Sabrina Shea said. “I was furious. School is supposed to be safe. “Now she was intoxicated and acted funny. How are students supposed to feel safe around her?”

Martin was released on court conditions, including a ban on entering any school grounds, NBC5 reports.

It comes after a separate incident where a group of schoolboys ‘gang raped a teacher, before torching her home.

Teacher High On Cocaine Thinks Student Is Her Dog

47-year-old teacher Melissa Martin has plead not guilty to charges of possession of cocaine and reckless endangerment after police and drug dogs found cocaine in her jacket pocket and her backpack according to The Mirror US.

Police arrived at Barre Town Elementary and Middle School in Vermont after a report of an adult being “under the influence of drugs,” according to Police Chief William Dodge.

At the scene, the teacher admitted to having cocaine in her pocket when questioned by police. Martin was charged after the cocaine was found in her jacket pocket and her backpack and found to be under the influence of the drug while in control of a classroom full of students.

One mother, who’s son was in Martin’s class on the day of the incident, told NBC5 that her son was visibly upset due to what had taken place in his class.

As if this wasn’t enough, things got even more strange and upsetting.

The student told his mother that Martin was allegedly continuously nodding off during class, and then at one point got up and ran out of the classroom.

The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, says her son then followed Martin into the hall “and I guess found her, and [Martin] said to him, ‘Hey Teddy, why are you off your leash? My son was like, ‘What?'”

Authorities later found out the teacher has a dog at home named Teddy.

Superintendent of the Barre Unified Union School District Joan Canning tells NBC5 that Martin admitted to the drug use and was immediately fired.

Martin had reportedly been working as a permanent substitute teacher for the past 3 years.

I do remember my parents going to the Lafayette Wholesale Grocery Company, but it’s a faint memory. The building is now lofts in the downtown area. I love this picture because it is sold old, and I find it endearing. What a wonderful memory of a place that stills exist, but it exists in a different capacity. As the saying goes, “Everything old is new again.

Woolworth’s. I remember going to Woolworth’s with my parents. I think though at the time I went to the store that I remember it was called Woolco’s, and it was in the Grande Marche Shopping Center at the corner of Johnston and Mount Vernon Streets. I remember I loved to go into the store, not for the things that were on sale, but because I would hide in the shopping racks! I can’t tell you how many times I got lost in those racks, and one of my sisters was forced to find me so they could drag me back to my mom. I do remember we always ended up getting undergarments there! Woolco was a subsidiary of Woolworth Company, but it finally went out of business in Lafayette. The last Woolworth store closed down in 1997 according to Forbes Magazine. They go on to add that while most of the retail side went into decline, the sporting goods section blossomed turning into………The Foot Locker.

Ben Franklin Was My Favorite Five & Dime Store

I remember many trips as a little kid to Ben Franklin’s. I LOVED that place. Why? The biggest thing that stands out in my mind about Ben Franklin’s? I loved the chocolate candy coins. I remember the store been stuffed full of tons of toys and candy. When you’re a little kid, you have to have priorities. While we no longer have the Ben Franklin’s Store in the Winnwood Shopping Center, there are still Ben Franklin stores in America.

Did Y’all Shop at the A & P?

The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company is the full name of A & P. I always heard everyone as a kid say, “Y’all went to the A&P?” I never heard, “Did y’all go to A & P?”, and now I know why. It’s because they are The Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company. We didn’t often shop at A&P, but we did from time to time, mostly for the specials, I’m sure. The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2015, and their assets were sold. I don’t even remember when that A&P in the Oil Center closed, but I do remember, “The A&P”.

Weingarten’s Grocery Store in the Oil Center Wasn’t the Only Location

Weingarten’s Grocery Store. Aww, the memories. This was the grocery store that my mom shopped at the most. Every Saturday morning of the year, almost without fail, I was the one that ended up going to the grocery store with my mom. I never minded though because if I was good in the grocery store, I would get a treat. While we don’t have a Weingarten’s store anymore, I do have plenty of memories including the first time I committed a crime!!! Okay, technically I think it’s considered petty theft, but a crime none the less! Remember above I wrote that if I was good in the story, I would get some candy? I used to love to eat Chiclets gum. One particular Saturday in December (only know it was December because I had my coat on and Christmas was around the corner), I was not good in the grocery store so when we got up to the check out aisle, my mom wouldn’t let me get any candy. So being the smooth criminal that I was, I decided to just put them in my pocket, and she would never notice! Except, I shoved about half of the bag of mini Chiclets in my mouth. I still laugh at this story because my mom was so mad! I remember her grabbing the packet out of my coat pocket and making me apologize to the lady ringing up the groceries. Now, you have to understand, i was a shy, obedient child. I am convinced the devil himself must have possessed my soul that day. Weingarten’s stores ended up being bought out as a chain by Safeway in 1983. Woooohoo, thank goodness, I committed a crime, and the scene of the crime is gone! Do you remember shopping at any of the Weingarten’s locations?

Hancock Fabrics is no longer in Lafayette

How many Saturdays did I spend with my mother and sisters in Hancock Fabrics in the Winnwood Shopping Center? About a million. Obviously, I jest, but we were in that store all the time. Before I was born, my mother sewed the majority of my sisters clothes. Once I came along, she continued to sew, but mostly for recreation. By that time, the availability of decent cost-affordable clothing improved for a family with four kids. I did wear plenty of hand-me-downs, and I did sport two of my favorite dresses that my mom made as a kid until I outgrew them. Hancock fabric, like the fabric section in Heymann’s Department store downtown, was an amazing place to be. I remember that is the very place where I fell in love with sequins, glitter and evening wear. Shockingly, I am not a Vegas show girl today! Being a tactile child, I loved touching the various textures, things like satan, silk, chiffon and the sequined fabrics. Hancock Fabrics eventually moved from the Winnwood Shopping Center to the Ambassador Row Shopping Center, but then our store closed in 2016. There are still Hancock Fabrics stores, but there are none in Lafayette.

K&B Drugs “It Ain’t Dere No More”

One of the most fun Facebook places is “It Ain’t Dere No More”. It’s a website run by someone in New Orleans who showcases all the places that aren’t there anymore. K&B, I loved you as a child. You were the maker of my mint chocolate chip ice cream; you were the home of a child’s fascination with Christmas lights; you were there when I was lucky enough to get money for a Charleston Chew, but alas, you ain’t dere no more. The last K&B closed in 1997, but the stores were bought by Rite Aid. There are still plenty of Rite Aid’s in Lafayette and Acadiana. But what I wouldn’t give to take a time hop back to 1977 and one of your terrific Christmas displays. Oh, the wonder that was the K&B Christmas displays. By the way, in case you didn’t know, the K and B in K & B Drug Stores stood for Katz and Besthoff.

Bell’s Sporting Goods is Gone

While we do have an American Bank again, we do not have a Bell’s Sporting Goods Store. I was trying to think of how many locations of the store there were. Was their one in the Oil Center? I remember the one downtown and the location in the Don’s Seafood Hut area, but I don’t remember whether or not there was a Bell’s there. I remember both of my parents taking us to Bell’s Sporting Goods many times, but I don’t remember what we bought. Hint, hint, I’m guessing we bought sporting goods! I do remember liking the feel of going into Bell’s and the smell! It always smelled like plastic. Did they toys for swimming pools? Because as patch-wearing members of the Broadmoor Terrace Swim Club, I’m guessing that’s the kind of stuff we bought there. P.S. Broadmoor Terrace Swim Club isn’t there anymore either. Bummer! Those were the days! Nothing has ever tasted so good as a soft drink out of the machine after swimming for hours.

Abdalla’s Was Always a Gem

Abdalla’s Department stores were magical places. I loved to look at the clothes in every department. We only went to Abdalla’s for fancy clothes. If we were getting a new dress for Easter or Christmas, Abdalla’s it was. Those wonderful black and white diamond bags that they would taped closed were divine. When you got home, it was like you were opening a Christmas present. I loved all of the locations of Abdalla’s Department Stores, but my favorite was the Oil Center location because of the chandelier lights. Mom mostly shopped at the downtown location though, and that was always delightful too. The way the store was always so organized and the granite in front of the store downtown was sublime. Getting to go downtown was always a treat for a little kid because it looked “so busy”. It also usually ended with a trip to Borden’s for ice cream. Love me some Elsie!

Racoon Records was a great record shop. My first experience at a Racoon Records was at the Winnwood Shopping Center location. I loved music, and I still love music today. I just remember the rows and rows of options for music. I listened to plenty of Journey, Foreigner, Kansas and the like, because is the music my sisters loved. I still love it all today. I’m not going to lie though, we owned The Carpenters and the Grease soundtrack on LP. My parents bought vinyl of musicals and the like. We didn’t dig those, man.

D.H. Homes, I Miss You

When I was a kid, I loved D.H. Homes in the Acadiana Mall. I would shop with my mom when she was buying clothes for work. I was mesmerized by all of the beautiful clothing. The clothing was great, but let’s be honest, I really only wanted to go to DH Holmes for two things; the restaurant they used to have on the third floor because they had orange muffins and they used to have that Christmas village each year! Here’s is a picture from Lafayette Memories.

KayBee Toy & Hobby, It Was the Land of My Dreams

Oh how much many did I spend (and waste), along with my parents at KayBee Toys in the Acadiana Mall. I remember buying Goop, Barbie Dolls, Barbie Doll accessories, and then countless Atari games there. It was kid-heaven. When I was a kid, any allowance money I had, I spent at KayBee Toys. My parents hated passing down that wing of the mall because they knew I would beg for the latest Barbie and accessories. To this day, my love of evening wear is directly caused by my Barbie obsession. Bring on the sequins, glitter and chiffon. I know they happy when I moved to home video games, until they saw the price tags of the games. What a mecca of fun! They were all eventually bought out by Toys “R” Us which then filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy in 2018. While they have store fronts in twenty-five countries around the world, they are accessible to the American market via their website.

Remember Howard Brothers? Wal-Mart Does

Howard Brothers was a discount department store. Did your parents shop there? Mine did. I remember man and dad taking me to the Johnston Street location. This picture is from the Opelousas store. I just remember going there often for various things my parents needed. They ended up selling their stores to another company. They then started up the Super Saver stores, but that didn’t last long and eventually they sold out to Wal-Mart.
